Ernst Krebs

Ernst Krebs (* November 4, 1906 in Munich, † 20 July 1970 Gauting ) was a German canoeist who in 1936 won an Olympic gold medal.

Ernst Krebs won in 1933 in Prague, the first European Championship in the one - kayaking in the 10,000 meters ahead of Sweden's Nils Wallin and German Edi Kleckers. In 1936 he won at the German Championships in the 10,000 meters. At the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936 he won the competition in the 10,000 meters in 46:01,6 minutes thirteen seconds ahead of the Austrian Fritz Landertinger. 1936 saw the first Olympic competitions held in canoeing. On August 7, the competitions were held in the 10,000 meters, the decisions over 1000 meters took place on August 8. Ernst Krebs was the first canoeing gold medalist in an individual discipline.

Cancer was an enthusiastic mountaineer, in 1932 he survived a fall from a height at Wiesbachhorn. 1970 died of Spenglermeister when he crashed near the attachment of a gutter at the level of the third floor.
