Ernst Ludwig II, Duke of Saxe-Meiningen

Ernst Ludwig II ( born August 8, 1709 Coburg, † February 24, 1729 in Meiningen, Germany ) was Duke of Saxe- Meiningen from 1726 to 1729

Life

Ernst Ludwig II was a son of Duke Ernst Ludwig I of Saxe- Meiningen and his wife Princess Dorothea Maria of Saxe- Gotha ( 1674-1713 ). It was after the death of his older brother Joseph Bernard on March 22, 1724 Hereditary Prince and succeeded his father as Duke of Saxe- Meiningen on 24 November 1724.

Ernst Ludwig's father had established for himself and his descendants the birthright in the country and determined as guardian for his firstborn his brother Frederick William and Frederick II Duke of Gotha. He had his half-brother Anton Ulrich ignored knowingly and provoked renewed dissensions in the royal family. Anton Ulrich processed against this scheme.

Ernst Ludwig II died in 1729 a year before reaching his majority. Successor as Duke of Saxe- Meiningen was his younger brother Karl Friedrich.
