Ernst Magnus Dönhoff

Magnus Ernst von Dönhoff (* December 10, 1581, † June 18, 1642 in Will Crest) was Voivode of Pärnu and Starosta of Dorpat.

Family

Count Magnus Ernst von Dönhoff came from the Dönhoff family and was a son of Gerhard von Dönhoff ( † after 1602) and of Margaret of Zweiffeln († 1622). He was since June 16, 1630 married to Catherine of Dohna ( 1606-1659 ). The marriage produced a daughter and four sons, including Friedrich von Dönhoff († 1696 ), kurbrandenburgisch - Prussian lieutenant general and Ernst Dönhoff emerged, († 1693), Polish Major General. Magnus Ernst Dönhoff was the progenitor of the Prussian houses of Dönhoff family.

Life

Magnus was Mr. Ernst on Oberpahlen, and later by marriage on Great Wolf village.

He stood firmly in the Polish parties, as also participating in the Polish -Turkish War and the Polish- Swedish War. He also acted as a Polish diplomat, he was a member of the Commission that prepared the 1625 peace agreement between Sweden and Poland. He was also instrumental in the Treaty of Altmark and the Treaty of Stuhmsdorf.

1632 Wejher was of Dorpat and Telsen, 1635 Castellan, 1640 voivode of Pärnu. Because the areas of Livonia in 1629 came to Sweden north of the Daugava river, he lost his local ownership and has therefore probably only occupied some of its offices listed from the title.

Even before his marriage, he turned to Prussia and lent the Elector Georg Wilhelm 30,000 Polish florins, for which he received the Chamber office Waldau Pawn way to the Pregel at Königsberg, then where three of his sons were born.

1633 by Emperor Ferdinand II elevated to the Imperial Count. Count Dönhoff was buried in the Altstädtischer Church in Elbing.
