Ernst Paulus

Ernst Paulus ( born January 3, 1897 in Marburg, † September 12, 1986 in Berlin- Reinickendorf ) was a German athlete and Olympic athlete who was successful in the 1920s as a discus thrower.

Ernst Paul from VfB Gießen at the German Championships 1922 in Duisburg was second in the 110- meter hurdles behind Heinrich Troßbach and in the discus throw behind Gustav Steinbrenner. Paul started in 1927 for FC 09 Wetzlar, when he was behind Hermann Hänchen second in the discus throw. At the German Championships 1928 in Dusseldorf, he won the title with a distance of 47.35 m. Since 1928, starting for VfL Wetzlar he was in 1930 again second behind Hans Hoffmeister.

Between 1922 and 1930, 2.02 m wide, Paul stepped up to six times the national team in the 1928 Olympics in Amsterdam, he was flag bearer for the German Olympic team. In Amsterdam, he threw the discus at 44.15 meters and was the best German seventh.

Ernst Paul was Head of Wetzlar Office of Physical Education in the 1920s. After the Second World War, he was coach of the SC Stahl Riesa, in the 1960s, he was managing director of the Athletics Federation Palatinate. Ernst's brother Friedrich Paulus was a career officer in World War II and rose to the Field Marshal.
