Ernst-Robert-Curtius-Preis
The Ernst Robert Curtius Prize for essay writing is an award since 1984 Literature Prize. Stifter was originally the bookseller and publisher Thomas Grundmann in Bonn; 2005 and 2007, the awards were presented by Thalia Holding together with the Donors. Since 2009, the " University of Bonn society - Friends, Supporters, Alumni eV " Support of the award. The award, which honors each essayistic a life's work or an outstanding individual work, is endowed with 8,000 euros.
The same award, endowed with 4,000 euros Ernst Robert Curtius conveyor Prize ( since 1986) aims to promote less than 40 years younger writers.
Both awards aim to promote the German essay, similar to the Anglo-Saxon and Romance languages , also in Germany, Austria and Switzerland as an independent literary form and enforce. The award is based next to linguistic criteria at the thought of Ernst Robert Curtius Romanists and the criteria of a united Europe and international understanding within and outside the German language borders.
The awards were presented annually until 2001, and since 2003 they are presented every two years at the Rheinische Friedrich- Wilhelms-Universität Bonn by the mayor. The jury members are public figures, politicians, writers, the Bonn mayor, the rector of the university as well as the founder.
