Ernst Zahn

Ernst Zahn ( born January 24, 1867 in Zurich, † February 12, 1952 in Meggen LU) was a Swiss writer.

Life

Ernst Zahn was born the son of a hotelier from Bavaria. He grew up in Zurich on in his father's restaurant in Baugarten and took over after years of apprenticeship in England and Italy in 1887, his father's business in Göschenen. At the same time he was a member of the council and later became a member of the Uri district administrator. In 1893, he married Lina Fäh.

In 1913 he was elected President of the Swiss writers association (SSV ). This office he had to travel due to his enthusiastic espousal of the German Empire in the First World War erupting again the following year. In 1916 he gave up his profession and lived thereafter as a freelance writer in Meggen and Zurich. As a Swiss folk poet, however, he had his greatest success in Germany. After the Second World War, he was largely forgotten.

On January 24, 1937 Ernst Zahn was named an honorary citizen of the community Meggen.
