Erythronium purpurascens is a species of the genus of the tooth lilies ( Erythronium ).

Features

The bulbs are 25 to 40 millimeters tall and slim. The leaves are 6 to 15 inches long. The leaf blade is green and lanceolate to almost ovate. The leaf margin is more or less wavy strong. The shaft is 7 to 20 inches long. The inflorescence is one to sechsblütig.

The petals are 10 to 20 millimeters in size, lanceolate and not auriculate at the base. They are colored white and the lower third bright yellow when they get older, they turn pinkish - purple. The inner petals are wider than the outer auriculate to the base and less than four times as long as wide. The stamens are 8 to 12 millimeters in size. The stamens are slender and yellow. The anthers are cream to yellow, the style 4-5 mm long and yellow. The scar is more or less ungelappt. The capsules are 2-4 inches long and obovate.

The flowering time is in the summer, shortly after the snow melt from June to August.

Occurrence

Erythronium purpurascens is endemic to California. The species occurs in open coniferous forests, meadows and on rocky sites at altitudes from 1500 to 2700 meters.
