Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado "La Esmeralda"

The Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado " La Esmeralda" ( ENPEG ) in Mexico City has its origins in the 1927 by Guillermo Ruiz in the former monastery " Exconvento de la Merced " based sculptor and woodcarver school.

In the 30s the establishment moved to the alley through which it got its name " La Esmeralda". In the run by Ruiz school taught, among other things Raúl Anguiano, Feliciano Peña and José Chávez Morado. 1943 took over the painter Antonio M. Ruiz directing the hitherto somewhat tentative -looking school. He designed the building new, divided the training into several classes and developed the first curriculum plan. Now approved by the curriculum plan by the Secretaría de Educación Pública, 1943, the school was officially to art school. Among the most important teachers at that time were the artist Diego Rivera, Francisco Zúñiga, Frida Kahlo, Carlos Orozco Romero, María Izquierdo and Agustín Lazo. 1994 moved the " La Esmeralda" based in the Guerrero - settlement into the art center Centro Nacional de las Artes.
