Eskil Ervik

Eskil Ervik ( born January 11, 1975 in Trondheim ) is a Norwegian speed skater.

Eskil Ervik won the 1999 bronze medal in the all-around world championships in Hamar, and in 2000 the silver medal at the European Championships also in Hamar. In 2006 he again won the silver medal at the European Championships in Hamar.

After he moved to the U.S. coach Peter Mueller, he improved by leaps and bounds. So he ran on 15 October 2005 in Inzell a new outdoor world record in the 3,000 m ( 3:44,90 min. ) And on 15 November 2005, he improved the record in Calgary to 3:37,28 min. Eight days later he won also in Calgary the world record in the 5,000 m in a time of 6:12,19 min. However, Chad Hedrick ran faster early as next pair, so that the time of Eskil Ervik was not recognized as a world record.

At the 2006 Olympics in Turin, he finished 10th in the 5,000 m and the 11th place in the 10,000 m. Together with Håvard Bokko, Mikael Flygind Larsen, Øystein Grødum and Lasse Sætre he finished 4th in the Team Pursuit.

After the 2006/2007 season, Eskil Ervik could qualify because of strong national competition no longer for international competitions ( World Cup, European Championships, World Championships ).

Ervik is athlete ambassador of development organization Right to Play.
