Espoon keskus

Espoon keskus ( swedish Esbo centrum) is a district of the Finnish city of Espoo. It has about 17,000 inhabitants.

Literally translated, the name means " the center of Espoo ." The district is located in the approximate geographic center of Espoo at the point where there is a village called Espoo / Esbo was in the Middle Ages. The district houses the main administrative building and the only served by mainline rail station in the city, but a real city, it is not ( as part of the " Capital Region ", the urbanized areas around Helsinki, Espoo has no clear own downtown). In fact Espoon keskus lies at the outer edge of the urbanized area, as the denser development in Espoo concentrating on the southern part of the urban area, the Helsinki is the closest, while the northern part is rural.

Got its name, the area in the 1970s, as Espoo received the rank of a city and the administrative buildings were built. The rest of the building fabric comes mostly this, or more recently. In Espoon keskus but is also the oldest surviving buildings in the city, the medieval cathedral of Espoo.
