The Esse stream is 11.6 km flow distance after Vocke Bach 's second longest and also a northern or right-side tributary of the Pfieffe in Osthessischen mountains in the north Hessian districts of Werra- Meißner and Schwalm -Eder.

Its catchment area covers 28.574 km ².

Course

The Esse creek rises in the western part of the Werra -Meißner -Kreis Werra - Fulda in the Highlands, part of Osthessischen highlands. Its source lies between the nucleus of hessian Lichtenau and its southern district Retterode at the former colliery Glimmerode to around 375 m above sea level. NN. Located just west of it lies the Hamberg ( 433.9 m ) to the deserted village of Oberndorf.

The mostly along the highway 487 running südsüdwestwärts in the Spangenberg sink as the limit of Melsunger mountains to the west and Stölzinger Mountains in the east chimney creek initially flows through the east of the Himmelberg ( 563.7 m), the highest elevation of Günsteröder height, situated village Retterode.
