The Estadio Cartagonova is the municipal football stadium in Cartagena. The city of Cartagena with a seaport located on the Mediterranean in the autonomous region of Murcia in southeastern Spain.
Stadium
The name refers to the Latin name of the city of Carthago Nova. It is the sporting home of FC Cartagena. It replaces the Estadio de El Almarjal; to FC Cartagena from 1925 to 1987 played. It offers 14,532 places today. At the beginning it took 20,000 spectators. The stands are fully double-level, and only the main grandstand is covered. In the basement are, inter alia, to the changing rooms, a fitness room, a sauna and a press center. Before the spectators a 6 meter wide and 1.50 meters deep ditch runs.
1987 the city of Cartagena and the Portuguese trading company Continente that Continente gets the plot of the old stadium for the construction of a shopping center. In return, Conti had to duck to build a new stadium. For the design of the construction, the architectural firm CMMP Arquitectos ( Cardona, Martín Molina Plaza) was responsible. The design is based on the Mini Estadi 1982, the stadium of the second and third team as well as the A- youth of FC Barcelona.
On September 27, 1987, the last game in El Almarjal took place. It played against Cartagena CD Castellón and won 4-0. Until the opening of the new venue in February 1988 we played in the neighboring town of Torre -Pacheco. Was inaugurated the stadium on February 7, 1988 with the match FC Cartagena - Real Burgos, which ended 0-0. In January 2000, seats were placed in the upper tier.
