Estadio Marte R. Gómez

The Estadio Marte R. Gómez is an athletics and football stadium in Ciudad Victoria, the capital of the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. It is the football team of UAT Correcaminos as a home ground and offers 18,000 spectators.

History

The stadium is located on the grounds of the Unidad Cívica, Social y Deportiva " Adolfo Ruiz Cortines ," whose construction was begun on a large and diverse sports facilities already in the 1920s.

The Estadio Marte R. Gómez was built in 1938/39, under the direction of engineer Marte R. Gomez Segura and opened on October 19, 1939. As a model for the design was the Berlin Olympic Stadium.

The stadium was renamed a long time under the name Estadio Victoria, before it received its present name in honor of the former politician MR Gómez. Prior to the founding of the University team of UAT Correcaminos the stadium served over long distances as a venue for amateur football games and especially home games of the football team Cuerudos de Ciudad Victoria, who was an integral part of the Second Division 1959-1978.
