Ciudad Victoria is the capital of the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. It lies in the center of the state, has 261,000 inhabitants and an area of 1638 km ².

History

Ciudad Victoria was established on October 6, 1750 as Villa de Santa María de Aguayo, José de Escandón y Helguera, named after the first governor of the colony of Nuevo Santander in the Viceroyalty of New Spain. The city was in the typical Spanish colonial towns square shape around a central square, today's Plaza Hidalgo created.

On April 20, 1825 Ciudad Victoria was given the status of a city and was named in honor of Mexican President Guadalupe Victoria to him. It became the capital of Tamaulipas.
