The Estadio Nuevo Vivero is a football stadium in the Spanish city of Badajoz. It has a capacity of 15,598 spectators, the largest in Extremadura and serves the Club CD Badajoz as homestead.

History

Estadio Nuevo Vivero The construction of which was to replace the old Estadio El Vivero, began in September 1997. The new venue was southwest of the urban area, built on the southern bank of the river as a part of the sports complex Ciudad Deportiva Municipal La Granadilla. The playing field is surrounded by two grandstands, roofed is only the main grandstand on the west side of the stadium. The opening ceremony took place on 2 December 1998 with a match between the home side CD Badajoz and local rivals FC Extremadura, this ended in a 0-0 draw. On 8 September 1999, the Spanish national team played in the new stadium a meeting of the European Championship qualifier against Cyprus in 2000, the home team won the match with a 8-0 win. Another international meeting took place on 2 September 2006 here, this time the Iberians defeated the team from Liechtenstein in the European Championship Qualifiers 2008 4-0.
