Esteban Daza

Esteban Daza (* 1537 in Valladolid, † 1591 ) was a Spanish guitarist ( vihuela ) and composer.

Daza came from a fairly well-off family, and studied at the University of Valladolid. Instead of a regular professional practice, he lived from investment income and at times lived together with brothers and sisters in a house. Until 1591 information on Daza have survived.

He was one of the last musicians who played in Spain spread up to his time vihuela. This is a type of lute, which decreed against the then four-stringed guitar over one to three additional strings and thus far allowed fuller chords. The published by him in 1576, collection of works for this instrument is regarded as the last of its kind in addition to original compositions it also contains arrangements of works by other composers. In the following period the guitar was more strings and triumphantly enter, especially in Spanish music.
