Esterase

Esterases are enzymes in all living organisms that are capable of ester hydrolysis split into an alcohol and an acid ( saponification). This is therefore hydrolases. Lipolytic Esterases called lipases. Phosphate -cleaving esterases hot phosphatases. The cleavage of nucleic acids is accomplished by nucleases.

Esterases in the narrower sense ( Carboxyesterasen ) found in biocatalysis as a biocatalyst application. Esterases occur among other things, in the human liver. Industrially important, for example, the pig liver esterase (PLE ).
