Esther Forbes

Esther Forbes ( born June 28, 1891 in Westborough, Massachusetts, † August 12, 1967 in Worcester, Massachusetts) was an American writer.

Life

Forbes was educated at Bradford Junior Academy and later began studying at the University of Wisconsin. There Breakneck Hill was born, her first, published in the Grinnell Review short story. Because of the First World War she broke off her studies to work as a farm assistant. After the war, she began by Houghton Mifflin to work. In 1926 she published her first novel O, genteel lady! , Which was positively received by critics. In the same year she married Albert Learned Hoskins and decided to write to the main profession to make. The marriage to Albert in 1933 divorced and she moved back to Worcester. There followed several books, until they won the Pulitzer Prize with Paul Revere and the world he lived in (1942 ) in the category of history, and was known nationwide.

The research for this biography, she used to write a children's book about the agents of a silversmith at the beginning of the American Revolution. Johnny Tremain: A Novel for Young and Old, published in 1943, was in 1944 with the Newbery Medal, one of the most prestigious American children's book prizes, awarded and is considered today one of the classics of American literature.
