ESTIEM

ESTIEM ( European Students of Industrial Engineering and Management ) is Europe's only organization for students of the Faculty of Industrial Engineering. The main objective of ESTIEM is to promote communication and cooperation between students and technological institutes within Europe. Since the founding year in 1990 ESTIEM stands up for these goals. The members of this organization are local student groups from different countries. Today ESTIEM represented by its 74 members, which extend over 28 European countries, more than 60,000 students.

History

ESTIEM was founded in 1990 by several industrial engineering students from four different countries. His first statutes were signed by 14 universities from 7 countries. Since 1995 ESTIEM is an official student organization, which is registered in Eindhoven to the Dutch law.

Structure

The members of ESTIEM - in the legal sense - are local groups ( LGs ), which are distributed all over Europe. All LGs are completely independent student organizations, which are mainly composed of industrial engineering students and self-organize. Your daily business is active to organize Europe-wide as well as local events and align. This work not only promotes their own skills, but also helps build up an extensive network of industrial engineering students across the continent.

Activities and Projects

Activities include exchanges between local groups, conferences, case study competitions, lectures, seminars and workshops. The individual projects will be discussed below.

TIMES

TIMES stands for "Tournament In Management and Engineering Skills ", which in German means something like " tournament for skills in management and engineering ." TIMES is now regarded as the largest pan-European case study competition for Industrial Engineers. This highly prestigious event is the flagship among the numerous projects of Europe-wide student organization ESTIEM.

This tournament was in 2013 successfully aligned the 20th time. Each year, some 250 top teams. In order to qualify for the finals of the TIMES, the teams have to overcome two qualifying rounds. The locations of the qualifying rounds change annually among local groups in ESTIEM. But before the team can move into the qualifying rounds, they take part in the local precipitation, which is organized by their own high school group. The winner of this elimination may be at one of the six semi-finals, which are offered throughout Europe to participate. In the week in which takes place the final, all the winning teams in the semi-finals are brought together and the members of the winning teams will be named Europe's " industrial engineers of the Year".

The European case study competition TIMES was created in 1998 to life. Today, he provides an opportunity for 60,000 students from 74 universities from 28 European countries. Around 250 teams compete annually for the title of " Industrial Engineers of the Year".

The Vision Seminar

Vision is a Europe-wide seminar series, which aims the skills and abilities of industrial engineers to improve.

Within the Vision Seminars Lectures, workshops and case studies are available which are held by professors and businessmen. additionally there are also company visits and excursions. However, not only the academic skills ( further) developed. Participation also expanded cultural awareness, as participants different cities, people and cultures from all over Europe to meet in this way.

ESTIEM Summer Academy

The " ESTIEM Summer Academy" ( German: " Summer Academy " ) was set up so that international students can come together in their summer vacation to lead open discussions, participate in working groups, as well as debates on private instruction of a respected professor. The common dialogue, the exchange of ideas, studying and coming together of different students from all over the world, all participants gain new ideas and perspectives, not only for their own career but also in terms of dealing with other cultures. For the described contents of the two weeks during the "Summer Academy", which is headed by Prof. Dietrich Brandt since 2003, each participant writes an essay. All written work will be collected and published. You can find these works on the website of ESTIEM where they also available for download.

ESTIEM Magazine

The ESTIEM magazine is published twice a year, includes a circulation of around 10,000 copies and deals with main topics of industrial engineering, as well as with various articles to past or even event, taking place within ESTIEM. Also included are articles of students, professors and experts who could actively extend and apply their knowledge in practice. In order to make a number of ways attention to themselves, which can be combined with articles within the magazine, companies have the opportunity present itself in the context of controversial topics regarding industrial engineering. The magazine is distributed in a short period of time after each Annual General Meeting to all local groups.

The archive of previous issues can be found on the following page ESTIEM magazines.

Student Guide

With the " Student Guide " an international leader for students is to be created that will facilitate this study abroad by collecting information and providing for students. This is achieved by focusing on the following three areas:

  • Information about studies (eg deadlines, course offerings )
  • Practical information ( eg accommodation, cost of living)
  • Student activities (eg organizations, nightlife, sports )

At present, there is the " Student Guide " in a break. To track the process or actively shape is the following link helpful. ESTIEM Student Guide

Europe3D

The idea for this project Europe3D was established in 2006 when the then Board had assembled from ESTIEM in Dresden. Within a 5-day seminar, participants should the respective host country to meet its basic features. A special focus is on national characteristics of the policy and the local economy. To better understand the local conditions of the various European countries, cultural differences are highlighted. Thus, the three dimensions under which the host country is presented: politics, economy and culture. Richer Detail, provide theoretical insights into the land of talks and lectures by experts from industry, science and politics. Furthermore, it is also the goal of the participant is actively introduce the entire seminar. Especially with regard to the practical part of the seminar will attempt to actively cooperate with companies. The insight into business will be illustrated by means of field trips, company visits and lectures. At the end of the seminar, participants will have the opportunity to apply their acquired knowledge in a case study. Example of this would be sticking issues "Start of a new product " or " solving a problem of intercultural communication ".

Brain Trainer

Brain Trainer is a project that was created around leadership skills, presentation skills, business - to train and social skills. This will give the participants taught by professional training which run over one or two days. The goal is the participants to look after it and train yourself to develop professional and successful. This applies both for their work in an organization as well as for their future careers. A Brain Trainer project usually takes six to seven days and includes three to four training sessions focused on different categories:

  • Communication
  • Presentation
  • Negotiation
  • Team management
  • Business negotiations
  • Rhetoric
  • Edit case studies
  • Project Management
  • And much more ...

The training sessions are held either by a professional trainer or a member of ESTIEM which has the necessary expertise in this area. Besides the theoretical teaching is also a focus on the learning-by -doing principle, which are observed in experiments on himself. These participants can test their newly acquired skills to simulated situations and scenarios from the business and apply.
