Etar Architectural-Ethnographic Complex

The open air museum " Etar " ( Bulgarian Архитектурно - етнографски комплекс " Етър " / Architekturno - Etnografski kompleks " Etar "; German about Architectural ethnographic complex " Etar " [ note 1 ] ) is an open air museum in Bulgaria, 8 km south of the center of Gabrovo, Gabrowoer in its namesake neighborhood Etara [Note 2]. Etar ( Bulg Етър ) is the old name of the Yantra River, the headwaters of the Yantra River, at which also Gabrovo and the Open Air Museum are, he is often referred to with its old name.

The museum is the only open air museum in Bulgaria, situated on the edge of the " Balgarka " Nature Park, about halfway between the park boundary and the town of Gabrovo and one of the 100 national tourist objects of the country that have been listed by the Bulgarian Tourist Office. In the museum of Bulgarian life, the culture and the old traditional craftsmanship is shown, as well as the Bulgarian architecture before about 300 to 150 years.

History

The museum has the objective of maintaining popular Bulgarian traditions and was built in 1963 under the leadership of Lazar Donkow and opened on 7 September 1964. The obtained in situ water mill Karadschejka from 1780 was this extensively renovated and supplemented with other buildings that part had been brought in from other places in the original and partly exact replicas are. Since 1971, he has the status of a national monument.

Description

The museum extends over 7 hectares and is home to 50 objects. In addition to farmers and Craftsman houses are the outbuildings, fountains, bridges, ovens, a church with a school, a watch tower and a mosaic wall. The houses are from the period of the Bulgarian Revival, in the typical architectural style of the Bulgarian Revival: You have two floors, and typically have many windows, bay windows with carved wooden beams and wooden balconies. Fifteen reconstructed houses of this kind form the so-called " business street ".

A special feature of the museum is unique in Bulgaria collection of various water-powered installations, which includes a total of 10 fully functional objects. Among them, a grain and a fulling mill, a sawmill, a stocking weaving and woodturning workshops are for the production of wooden bowls and wooden wine bottles. All systems are functional and can also be put into operation thanks to a two- channel system.

In the houses, a series of workshops for the artisans are established in which 20 traditional Handwerkskünte are shown: one Werkstadtt for a coppersmith, einn pottery, woodcarving, icon painting, a wheelwright shop, furrier 's workshop, a silversmith, workshops for goatskin processing for the production folk musical instruments, a cutler, upholstery, weaving, sugar workshop, a bakery and a Glockenschmiede workshop.

On the museum grounds is a hotel are two restaurants and a cafe.

Throughout the year, are shown changing special exhibitions. Especially in the summer months, there are several special events on holidays with the presentation of the Bulgarian traditions and folklore programs.

Especially in winter multi-day courses on various traditional craft techniques are partly offered. The range is based on the existing workshops, ranging from icon painting on weaving and braiding to the furrier crafts. In early September, the international arts and crafts fair held many cultural events.
