Eteobalea isabellella

Eteobalea isabellella is a butterfly (moth ) from the family of the splendor butterfly ( Cosmopterigidae ).

Features

The moths reach a wingspan 9-16 mm. The head is yellowish-white and mixed back in gold. The first two thirds of the sensor shine dark brown and curled whitish. In the last third, there are five white rings. The thorax shining golden and back lined with shiny white. The front wings shine as golden brown and have the wing inner edge at the base yellowish lines. To subscribe to the forewings are some sublime golden spots. Near the front wing base three golden spots are arranged on a line extending obliquely outward line. This begins immediately below the Costa loader and ranges to beyond the anal fold. A white Costalfleck, who also is sometimes lacking, is 1 /5 of the forewing length. He is externally connected with three golden spots that lie on a sloping outwards and inwards to the wing inner edge curved line. The second white Costalfleck is located at 2/ 3 of the forewing length and is externally connected to a gold flecks. The third white Costalfleck is 3 /4 of the forewing length. It is connected to a directly underlying gold flecks. Furthermore, several golden spots are created. The first Subdorsalfleck located just outside the second Costalfleck. The second is located above the wing center between the second and the third Costalfleck. The third spot is located on the interior angles inward from the third and the fourth Costalfleck spot is located at the apex. In the apical region of six to eight small gold bars distribute. The hind wings shining gray. The abdomen shining gray-brown and golden shimmer.

In the males, the Tegumen distal tapered light and has a rear "U "-shaped bulge. The right brachium is bent and nearly twice as long as the left. It has a much wider and strongly sclerotized apex and at the base of the inside of a small lobe. The left brachium is bent and has a blunt apex. The Valven are concave and have a short rounded cucullus. The right Valvella is large and parallel walls. It is about as long as the tubular portion of the aedeagus and tapers distally to a rounded apex. The aedeagus is slightly curved. The bulbous part is oval, the tubular part is quite wide and tapers to a sharp point.

In females, the eighth segment is longer than wide. The ostium is semicircular. The sterigma is sickle-shaped. The ductus bursae is slightly shorter than the corpus bursae. The corpus bursae is oval and has a rear short, wide, tapering abruptly extension. It formed two large scale-like signals of different sizes.

Similar Species

Eteobalea isabellella differs from all other species of the genus by the golden brown color forewing and the numerous raised gold shiny spots on the forewings.

Dissemination

Eteobalea isabellella is native to southern Europe. In the north, the range extends to Romania. The species also occurs in Asia Minor and North Africa.

Biology

The biology of the species is unknown. The moths were collected from late May to early September.
