Ethion is a chemical compound from the group of Thiophosphoric.
Production and representation
Ethion can by reaction of dibromomethane with the sodium salt of O, O- diethyl dithiophosphate and O, O- or carbonyl Diethyldithiophosphorsäure of O, O- Diethylphosphordithioat obtained with formaldehyde.
Properties
Ethion is a colorless to brown in pure form odorless liquid. The technical product has a strong odor. The connection is in normal conditions and in closed vessels stable, slowly oxidized in air and is hydrolyzed under acidic and basic conditions.
Use
Ethion is used as an insecticide, and was first made by the FMC Corporation in the market. It was approved in the 1950s in the United States for use in citrus fruits. 1998, the application was subjected to restrictions. It acts as a cholinesterase inhibitor.
In Germany, Austria and Switzerland No pesticides are allowed containing ethion as active ingredient.
