Ethnographic Museum (Budapest)

The Ethnographic Museum Budapest (Hungarian: Néprajzi Muzeum ) is one of the greatest ethnological museums in Europe and shows an ethnographic special collection with nearly 200,000 exhibits, of which around 140,000 Hungarian and 60,000 international properties. Its first director was born in 1872 János Xantus.

It is dedicated to the culture of the Hungarian people as well as other European and non-European peoples from primitive society to civilization.

The museum has been housed since 1973 in a Wilhelminian, the on Kossuth tér 12 opposite the Parliament is located in the 5th district of Budapest and combines elements of Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical. The building was designed by architect Alajos Hauszmann (1847-1926) originally built for the Ministry of Justice and completed in 1896. The building also has a festival hall and various conference rooms and serves as the venue for receptions and events.
