Ethoprophos is an active ingredient for plant protection and a chemical compound from the group of Thiophosphoric. The insecticide was discovered in 1966 and subsequently introduced by the Mobil Chemical. Later, the active ingredient of the Rhône -Poulenc (now Bayer AG) acquired.

Production and representation

Ethoprophos can be obtained by reaction of phosphorus oxychloride with 1- propanethiol ( propyl ) and subsequent reaction of the intermediate with sodium ethoxide. Alternatively, the reaction of phosphorus oxychloride with ethanol, and then reacting the intermediate with 1- propanethiol possible.

Properties

Ethoprophos is a yellowish liquid, which is slightly soluble in water. It is stable under neutral and slightly acid, but rapidly hydrolyzed under basic conditions.

Use

Ethoprophos is used against nematodes and soil insects. This includes all weevils, flea beetles, cutworms ( cutworms ), such as Cutworms, beetles ( wire worms ) and more. The effect is based on the inhibition of acetylcholinesterase.

Admission

In Germany, Austria and Switzerland No pesticides are allowed to contain Ethoprophos as active ingredient.
