Euarchonta

Squirrel Monkey ( Saimiri sciureus )

  • Shrews ( Scandentia )
  • Giant slide ( Dermoptera )
  • Primates (Primates )

As Euarchonta ( gr ευ " good, genuine "; άρχοντ " ruler "; see Archon ) is called a clade, which includes not only the primates and the giant gliders (collectively Primatomorpha ) and the tree shrew. The Euarchonta 1999 were compiled on the basis of genetic studies by excluded from the previously postulated on the basis of morphological criteria group of Archonta the bats ( Chiroptera ). The extinct order of Plesiadapiformes is provided as a sister taxon of primates to the Euarchonta.

The currently available data, be based on the molecular clock extrapolate that the Euarchonta have emerged in the Cretaceous period about 88 million years ago and segregating prior to 86.2 million years in the groups of tree shrews and the Primatomorpha. The latter was divided in front of 79.6 million years in the orders of primates and the giant glider.
