Eucharius

Eucharius was according to ancient sources, the first bishop of Trier. His work falls approximately in the middle of the 3rd century. It is not quite sure if he really existed.

Worship

The worship of Eucharius von Trier is attested from 455, the legend is in the 8th century detectable. Gregory of Tours called him a " protector of the city of Trier in front of a plague epidemic ." After that he should be himself was still a student of Peter, who sent him together with Maternus as evangeliser to Gaul. He raised his companions Maternus with the character of Peter from a sarcophagus. The Trier tradition tells that he toppled a statue of Venus and today's market cross was put in his place.

On the old Trier's seal it receives next to the St. Peter the keys to the city (Latin urbs ).

The Church of St. Eucharius ( Sommerach ) is dedicated to him.

His attributes are holy Dragon, Hellhound and the devil.
