Euclichthys polynemus

Euclichthys polynemus ( Gr. " eukles ," - "it" = gorgeous, " ICHTYS " = fish; "poly" = many, " nema " = thread ) is a species in the order of the cod -like ( gadiformes ). The fish lives in the southwest Pacific, in Australia from Queensland to north-western Australia and New Zealand at depths of 250-920 meters.

Features

Euclichthys polynemus can reach a length of 35 cm, but usually remains only about 22.5 cm long. The elongated fish has two dorsal fins, which are close together. The first is high, has a short base and is supported 12 to 15 fin rays. The second is low, elongated and has 74 to 77 fin rays. The anal fin consists of a high, front lobe with about 15 fin rays and a very low rear part 77 fin rays. Dorsal and anal fins extend to the base of the small, asymmetrical tail fin, with the lower lobe is larger. The pelvic fins are throat constantly and only consist of four individual fin rays the longest of which extends to the anus. The fish has about 70 vertebrae.
