Euconulidae

The Kegelchen ( Euconulidae ) are a family from the suborder of terrestrial snails ( gastropod ). It is usually very small forms (approx. max. 3 mm).

Features

The housings are cone-shaped and mostly smooth - shiny. They are small to very small and have to about 5.5 turns. The skin is thin and shiny. The umbilicus is narrow to closed. The animals lay very large and a few eggs. They are oviparous and ovoviviparous.

Occurrence and life

The distribution of the family is worldwide with a focus on diversity on the west coast of North America. The animals occur in humid forests, swamps and the peripheral areas of the aquatic environment. They live on decaying plant parts.

The family of Kegelchen ( Euconulidae ) are a family of the superfamily Gastrodontoidea. At this superfamily in addition to the Nominatfamilie ( Gastrodontidae ), the families Chronidae, Oxychilidae, Trochomorphidae and the three extinct families Archaeozonitidae, Grandipatulidae and Palaeoxestinidae expected.
