Eugen Kaufmann

Carl Eugen Kaufmann, later Eugene Charles Kent, ( born January 8, 1892 in Frankfurt am Main, † June 21, 1984 in London ) was a German-born architect who emigrated because of his Jewish origin in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Life

After studying architecture in Berlin and Munich businessman was under the direction of Bruno Taut employees in the Magdeburg city planning office. Since 1925, he was under the direction of Ernst May in the municipal building administration employed at the Project New Frankfurt, so the building of the municipal vehicle fleet, for example, was created under his leadership and he worked on the settlement Praunheim.

Between 1931 and 1933 he worked at Soviet invitation along with May as a town planner in the USSR. From here, he emigrated to London, where he ran his own architectural office until 1967.

1929, 1930 and 1937, he participated at each of the CIAMs.

The RIBA Library in London is in possession of unpublished manuscript written by the 1977 Eugene Charles Kent's Autobiographical Memoirs.
