Eugendus

Eugendus (c. 450 in Izernore, Ain department, † 510 or 517 in Saint- Claude ( Jura) ) was the fourth abbot of Condat and is a saint. He is also known by its French acronym Oyend.

According to his legend, which can be referred to, according to recent research as authentic Eugendus was given at the age of seven years to train in the former monastery of Condat. Later, he joined the Order, and followed the example of the monastic founder Romanus and Lupicinus, where he remained until his death in monastic orders. Eugendus acquired good knowledge of Latin and Greek and knowledgeable in the writings of the best. Around the year 496, he was appointed abbot of the monastery. Eugendus was instrumental in the development of the vorbenediktinischen monasticism in Gaul, but he was under the influence earlier monastic rules (including the rule of John Cassian ).

His feast day is January 2, in the dioceses of Besançon and Saint -Claude January 4.
