Eugène Edine Pottier

Eugène Pottier Edine ( born October 4, 1816 in Paris, † November 6, 1887 ibid ) was known as the lyricist of the international anthem of the labor movement and communism, the International.

Life

Pottier was a French Communist, transport workers and March to May 1871 Member of the Paris Commune. From the Commune experience, he wrote the lyrics of the anthem of the Communist Movement: The International.

In the cruel suppression of the Commune, he managed to escape. He emigrated to the United States. In 1880 he was pardoned and was able to return to France.

Pottier died in November 1887, was buried at the Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris.
