Eugene Tzigane

Eugene Tzigane ( born December 17, 1981 in Tokyo ) is an American conductor and currently chief conductor of the Northwest German Philharmonic Orchestra in the East Westphalian city of Herford in Germany.

Life

Tzigane was born in Tokyo, studied under James DePriest at the Juilliard School and graduated in 2007 with a Master of Music in Orchestral Conducting from. Later he studied with Jorma Panula at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm.

Tzigane first guest conducting with the Northwest German Philharmonic took place in October 2009. In December of the same year he was unanimously appointed chief conductor of the orchestra. His contract is initially limited to four years. Tzigane was previously chief conductor of the Philharmonic Orchestra Pomerian ( Filharmonia Pomorska ) in Bydgoszcz, Poland.

Awards

His awards include the Grand Prix at the " International Fitelberg " Contest 2007 in Katowice, Poland, and the second place in the two " Sir Georg Solti " competitions in Frankfurt and the International Lovro von Matacic competition in Zagreb, Croatia.
