Euphrasius of Illiturgis

Euphrasius of Illiturgum was one of seven legendary bishops who were allegedly sent by Peter and Paul to Spain.

The tradition of these "Seven Apostolic Men" ( " siete Varones apostólicos " ) lists, in addition Euphrasius as Bishop of Illiturgum (now Andújar ): Torquatus of Acci (now Cadiz ), Ctesiphon of Vergium (now Berja ), Secundus of Abula (now Abla ), Indaletius of Urci (today: Almeria), Hesychius of Carteia (now Cazorla ) and Caecilius of Illiberis (now Granada). This tradition comes from the Martyrology of Lyon in the year 806, which in turn is based on a source from the 5th century. Manuscripts from the 10th century, according to the seven men will be gone in Cadiz on land where they pursued by the local population, but to have been saved miraculously. The historical existence of these bishops is doubtful, even if Pope John Paul II explicitly pointed at a visit to Spain in 1982 to the seven bishops as missionaries in Spain.
