EUR-pallet

A Euro pallet pool ( colloquially: Euro pallet; abbreviated FP also for flat pallet ) can be any range from the exchange system of the euro pool be. Typically ( as follow) is the EN 13698-1 by standardized, reusable transport pallet with an area of 0.96 square meters and the dimensions 1200 × 800 × 144 mm (length × width × height ) and a weight of 20-24 kg ( meant depending on moisture content ). It is supported by 78 special nails held together (sometimes 81 nails).

A Euro pallet is a so-called four-way entry, that is, they can be absorbed and transported from all four sides with an automatic material handling equipment, forklift or pallet truck.

The Euro pallet UIC standardized and complies with the provisions of the European Pallet Association ( EPAL ).

History of the Euro pallet

Beginning of 1961 and in the following years, signed a number of European railways, the Association of International Railways ( UIC) ( Union Internationale des Chemins de fer ) are organized into a contract with a replaceable pallet, named Euro pallet.

The end of 1968, a further contract with a replaceable box pallet with the name Eurogitterbox was signed by some tracks.

The undersigned railways were obliged to comply with the standards, manufacture and repair of euro pallets and EUR-box. The monitoring and ensuring trouble-free replacement in the EPP (European pallet pool ) was contractually agreed.

The mid-1970s, the German Federal Railroad transfer their rights to the characters DB, RAL -RG 993, oval EUR and EPAL to the Euro pallets and EUR-box "goodness Community Palettes" today's European governing body of EPAL and the characters were thus protected by trademark law.

There are now four different brands ( WORLD, EPAL, CHEP, LPR), which are registered and legally binding under which Euro pallets are made . In all, there are wooden pallets, where the structural design is the user commonly known as " Euro Pallet " designated pallet design. The prior art has been published among others in the utility model of Julius Hofer ( Erbach (Odenwald ) ) by the German Patent Office under No. DE 1935973 U1 (Appendix 1) on 31 March 1966.

Today, these above-mentioned range design is manufactured under different brand names in standardized sizes according to EN 13698-1 and mostly 800 mm × 1200 mm available in the palette format known as " Euro Pallet " by consumers in the market.

The WORLD brand here is the youngest of the registered marks for timber, reusable and exchange pallets.

Use

Since Euro pallets have standardized dimensions and are typically loaded on a trailer, a swap body container or a truck, you can always loaded along two Euro pallets crosswise or three Euro pallets. Euro pallets will find anywhere in the transportation business use. In many industries, the packaging machines are standardized on Euro pallets.

Limitations

Euro pallets are not normally used in ISO containers because the dimensions of the euro range does not match those of the ISO container. This is due to different unit systems in America (origin of the container) and Europe ( origin of the Euro standard pallet ). Valuable and expensive transport volume in the container would be used so not optimal. For some time, a plastic pallet has prevailed with the optimized dimensions for container dimensions 1140 x 1140 mm on the market. To conventional Euro pallets ( 1200 x 800 mm) to transport without loss of load space in containers were introduced adapted to the European Single Market on the dimensions of the ISO container, but slightly wider inland container.

Identification

A Euro Pool range of the brand EPAL must have the following markings to be treated as such:

  • The marking EPAL on the left corner block. It is not absolutely necessary, but only a sign of quality is, but often requires; in Italy almost exclusively
  • The Manufacturer Code, a Signierklammer the examiner and an identification of the approved for production path (eg "CH" for Switzerland)
  • When repaired euro pallets a round Prüfnagel on the middle block on one of the two long sides
  • The character of the European Pallet Pool EUR at the right corner block
  • EPAL with oval surround ( e = European Pallet Association EPAL V. )
  • Feature of the company with border eg "DB " for the German Bahn AG
  • Country of manufacture such as " D" for Germany
  • Güteprüfklammer (under D) and optionally repair nail
  • Digits: number of the manufacturer - Year - Month of manufacture
  • IPPC marking for pest- free wood
  • EUR trademarks with oval surround

Weight loads a Euro pallet

The EUR flat pallet can carry more than 1000 kg on a point and a maximum of 2000 kg with uniform distribution. Damaged and thus not exchangeable pallets often have a much lower capacity.

Quality differences

There are different types of quality, which are decisive for the respective shipper at Euro pallet exchange:

In practice, the ratings differ especially between " exchangeable " and "non- returnable " despite the simple discrimination rules from each other.

Exchange criteria

Whether pallets " exchangeable " are defined. Not returnable pallets EPAL loud when

  • The range was not made by a licensed operation after EPAL criteria
  • The EUR or other markings on the pads missing,
  • A board is missing,
  • Boards are so damaged that several nail shanks are visible,
  • A block is missing or damaged so that more than one nail shaft is visible,
  • The general condition is very bad ( rotten, dirty, etc.),
  • The range has been repaired by an unlicensed operation.

The provisions for the manufacture and repair of EPAL Euro pallets are up to the position of the individual nails extensive, and violations are regularly prosecuted under criminal and civil law. There are a number of fake euro pallets in circulation.

Frequently talk about " proper exchange pallets ". These pallets are also accepted, not 100% meet the criteria for EPAL - exchange ability.

Exchange agreements

The exchange with Euro pallets is not automatic. The following conditions are mandatory for a barter agreement:

  • It is a Euro pallet according to the quality differences.
  • The consignor has at contract out on Euro pallets.
  • On the shipping documents, the number of euro pallets is noted.
  • The assigned by the carrier carrier acknowledged - usually on the shipping documents / delivery - the number of acquired customers at Euro pallets.

Also note that a pallet exchange is not common in all states; even within the EU has become the custom to exchange pallets, not enforced in all member countries. The Swiss freight forwarders have dropped the end of 2007 from the pallet exchange. The pallet exchange is an individual agreement between sender and receiver, an exchange obligation ( legal basis ) does not exist. A cost-effective alternative to pallet exchange is reselling the pallets.

Wear factor

In contracts between shippers and carriers a wear factor of 5 % is brought for the benefit of the freight forwarder in approach generally.

Exclusion

From the exchange Euro pallets can be excluded only if

  • By the sender Euro pallets are made available, which do not meet the above criteria,
  • The recipient no Euro pallets are available in the above criteria,
  • The receiver has this system sold EUR pallets.

This must be noted on all the shipping documents.

A distinction is the sale value of a Euro pallet and collected deposits / rent of companies. Currently (August 2011 ) the current market value of a euro pallet, depending on the condition and treatment (eg IPPC ), 8,50 €.

Exchange clauses

For the process of exchange of the Federal Association of Forwarding and Logistics recommends two different clauses:

Cologne pallet exchange

The Euro pallets are train to train, that is at the loading point as in the unloading, exchanged immediately. The shipper agrees that the number of exchanged euro pallets again ready to swap the receiver. This clause is most often use in direct traffic.

Bonner pallet exchange

The Euro pallets are provided by the shipper to a certain quota available and also not replaced the receiver. This clause is most often use in groupage.

Price

Pallets are traded at current prices and are subject to the market law of supply and demand.
