European Association of Development Research and Training Institutes

The European Association of Development Research and Training Institutes (French Association Européenne des Institut de Recherche et de Formation en Matière de Développement, EADI ), the European Association of Development Research. EADI about 300 members in 27 European countries, of which just over half institutional members, so research and training institutes in the field of development research and development cooperation.

Objectives and activities

Objective of the association is to enhance the quality of development research and education, to promote scientific cooperation in this field and make research results accessible to the public. Other objectives include the interdisciplinary collaboration of European development research and networking with comparable research and training institutions, individual scientists and their umbrella organizations in developing countries. EADI is itself part of a worldwide network of regional associations of Development Research and Training Institutes (Inter Regional Coordinating Committee of Development Associations - ICCDA ). The cooperation and exchanges between the members of EADI done in thematic working groups. EADI has its own international journal out, the European Journal of Development Research, and published the results of the working groups in their own book series.

The financing of the association's work is done, among others, by membership fees, grants ( Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, State of North Rhine -Westphalia) and through participation in EU scientific projects.

Accreditation of Programmes

As part of the association's work for quality assurance procedures for the accreditation of study programs of development research was developed by EADI. A Akkredierungsrat ( " International Accreditation Council," IAC / EADI ) with experts from the field performs accreditation with authority on the basis of guidelines, which in turn build on the standards of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA ).

General conferences

Every three years, organized in collaboration with one of the EADI member institutes a major international conference, which serves the professional discussion of the research results of the members and the general presentation issues and development to the public.

History

The association was founded in 1975 in Linz / Austria. The seat of the Association was first in Vienna (1975 - 81), then in Tilburg / NL (1982 - 87) and Geneva / CH (1988 - 99). Since 1 January 2000 EADI in Bonn (Kaiser -Friedrich -Straße 11 ) is located here and has also its international secretariat. The International, Germany (InWEnt ), the German Development Institute and the Center for Development Research ( ZEF) jointly took over at the new headquarters of the Federation patronage.
