The Community Fisheries Control Agency ( EFCA, English European Fisheries Control Agency ) is an agency of the European Union based in Vigo, Spain. In April 2005, the decision was made in the Council of the European Union, to call this authority in life. You should ensure as an important part of the Common Fisheries Policy, the effective monitoring, control and enforcement of the rules of the common fisheries policy.

Construction

The Agency shall have a Board of Directors composed of representatives of the European Commission and the Member States. The Council shall establish a work program for the Agency and adopt the budget. On 8 July 2011, the Board of Directors Pascal Savouret appointed Director of the Agency. In addition, a panel of representatives of regional fish net councils was formed.

Objectives and tasks

  • Coordination of controls of the Member States relating to the control and inspection obligations of the Community;
  • Coordinate the deployment of combined in a common pool national means of control of the Member States in accordance with this Regulation;
  • Support Member States in reporting information on fishing and inspection activities to the Commission and third parties;
  • Under the jurisdiction: support Member States in fulfilling their obligations and duties under the provisions of the common fisheries policy;
  • Support of the Member States and the Commission in a Community harmonized implementation of the common fisheries policy;
  • Contribution to the research and development work of the Member States and the Commission in the field of control and monitoring methods;
  • Contribute to the coordination of inspector training and exchange of experience between Member States;
  • Coordination of measures to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing in conformity with Community rules.
