European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation

The European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation (EGTC ) is an instrument of the European Union, which aims to promote cooperation at Community level. It was established on 5 July 2006 on the basis of the EU Regulation 1082/2006.

" The EGTC aims to facilitate and promote cross- border, transnational and interregional cooperation of its members. It is composed of Member States, regional and local authorities and / or bodies governed by public law ( on an optional basis ) together. "

The EU financed specific projects for territorial cooperation, is managed with the implementation of the EGTC. For example, Luc Van den Brande, President of the Committee of the Regions, proposed in December 2009, to deepen cooperation with the Eastern Partnership countries through the use of the EGTC. An EGTC project must be members from the territory of at least two EU Member States belong. Each prospective member must obtain from the Member State concerned permission to attend the EGTC. Binding is the law of the Member State where the EGTC has its appropriate seat.
