Luc Van den Brande

Luc Constant Hélène Van den Brande ( born October 13, 1945 in Mechelen ) is a Belgian politician (CD & V). He was on February 21, 1992 to July 13, 1999 Prime Minister of Flanders.

Life

Luc Van den Brande earned his doctorate in law at the Catholic University of Louvain, where he received also a licentiate of the notary. From 1970 to 1988, he worked as a lawyer at the Court of Malines. He is married to Maria Baelus, three children and six grandchildren.

Political career

He is a member of the Belgian Senate.

Since February 2008, Van den Brande, President of the Committee of the Regions. In the committee, he has been a member since 1994 and from 1994 to 1998 and from 2000 to 2002 vice-president. In the years 2006 to 2008 he was First Vice-President. In addition, he was from 2000 to 2006 Head of the Belgian Delegation.

Politics

As Prime Minister of Flanders, he calls for more independence Flanders and saw himself as " lawyer of a confederal Belgium ". This statement earned him a rebuke of the Belgian queen.
