European Parliament Committee on Regional Development

The Committee on Regional Development (REGI ) is a committee of the European Parliament. Committee chairman since the European elections of 2009, the Polish woman Danuta Hübner ( EPP), which was responsible for the same issue previously as Commissioner for Regional Policy at the European Commission and was replaced in that position by her compatriot Paweł Samecki.

Deputy Committee Chairman Georgios Stavrakakis are, Markus Pieper, Filiz Hakaeva Hyusmenova and Michail Tremopoulos.

The Committee is responsible for the regional and cohesion policy of the EU, in particular for the use of funds from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the Cohesion Fund and other regional policy instruments of the Union; he coordinates generally the various EU structural funds. He also reviewed the other policies of the European Union in terms of its impact on economic and social cohesion of the regions and takes special care of the areas in the geographical periphery of the EU. The cross-border cooperation, such as in the Europe regions, falls within the jurisdiction of the Regional Development Committee. He maintains relations of the European Parliament for the Committee of the Regions, the organizations of the inter-regional cooperation and to local and regional authorities, including the cities.
