The European elections in Germany in 1989 was the third direct election of 78 German deputies to the European Parliament. It took place on 18 June 1989 under the EU-wide European elections in 1989. There is a choice were 22 parties and other on Political organizations.

Three other German deputies were sent from West Berlin. Due to the special status of the area they were not elected directly, but by the Berlin House of Representatives.

Result

Compared to the 1984 election, voter turnout rose from 57 % to 62%. Surprisingly attracted Republicans in the European Parliament. The FDP jumped just under five percent hurdle after they had this in 1984 and just missed.

In West Berlin, a deputy of the CDU, the SPD and the alternatives was ever elected list.

After the reunification

After German reunification on 3 October 1990, the German contingent in the European Parliament was raised for the European elections in 1994 to 99 seats. Up to this election, the People's Chamber sent 18 observers in the European Parliament.
