European Parliament election, 2004 (Slovakia)

The European elections in Slovakia in 2004 was held on 13 June 2004. There were selected 14 of the 736 to be awarded in the European Parliament seats. She was the first European elections in Slovakia, shortly after joining the European Union on 1 May 2004. Polling stations were 7-22 clock open.

Parties and Results

The elections ended with relatively balanced results for the represented parties in the European Parliament. The bourgeois parties SDKU, KDH and SMK -MKP together won eight seats and were in the fraction European People's Party - European Democrats represented. The opposition party Smer with three seats was part of the Party of European Socialists, while the HZDS was attached Member with three seats.

The involved in the government and the opposition ANO KSS failed short of the 5% hurdle.

The turnout was the lowest in the EU ( 16.96 %; 714 508 of 4,210,463 ), which was justified by the weak campaign and the lack of interesting topics.
