European Right (1984–89)

The Group of the European Right (English Group of the European Right, Fr. Groupe des droites européennes ), short ER or GDE, was from 1984 to 1989, existing far-right group in the European Parliament. She was the predecessor of the existing 1989-1994 Technical Group of the European Right ( DR). Overall, the Group had 17 deputies. Chairman of the French politician Jean -Marie Le Pen was originally the Italian MEP Giorgio Almirante was provided for this purpose.

History

The parliamentary faction arose after the European elections in 1984. Five years after the first European elections succeeded the extreme right in the second term to form the first time a separate group in the European Parliament. The Group of the European Right initially consisted of the ten members of the French Front National (FN), the five members of the Italian Movimento Sociale Italiano (MSI ) and the deputies of the Greek Ethniki Enosis Politiki ( EPEN ). A year after the establishment closed in 1985 also the deputy of the Northern Ireland Ulster Unionist Party ( UUP ), who had left the conservative faction European Democrats in protest to the English- Irish Treaty, the right-wing faction of. After the 1989 European elections, the European rights in the European Parliament was first as Technical Group of the European Right on, before this broke up after the European elections in 1994.
