History

The parliamentary faction arose after the European elections in 1989. Initially, the right-wing extremists had to form a group on the outcome of the European elections difficulties at European level. This was due to the resignation of the Greek EPEN and the Northern Ireland UUP from the European Parliament. In addition, the Republicans wanted due to the South Tyrol question do not form a common fraction with the Italian MSI. The MSI again rejected the leadership of Le Pen and, therefore, entered into a participation in a US-led Le Pen fraction. Ultimately, the Front National (FN) with the Republicans (REP ) and the Vlaams Blok (VB) agreed that it should form a technical group. However, during the legislative session, it always came back to bickering between and within the parties. While the REP and the separatist VB sworn to regionalism, the FN argued statist and centralist. Ultimately, leaving four of the six German MPs the Group, so they had shrunk at the end of 13 deputies.
