Eurymedon of Myrrhinus

Eurymedon of Myrrhinous (Greek Εὐρυμέδων eurymedon ) was the husband of Potone, sister of the philosopher Plato, and the father of the philosopher Speusippus. He lived in the late 5th century, and perhaps in the 4th century BC

Eurymedon came from the Athenian demos Myrrhinous. Evidence for its survival data arising from his marriage to the well- 432-424 BC born Potone and from the fact that his son Speusippus was born around 410/407 BC. Probably Eurymedon and Potone also had a daughter, who gave birth to a daughter, who Speusippos - her uncle - married. Speusippus was 348/347 BC, succeeding his uncle Plato as head of the Platonic Academy ( Scholarch ).

The Eurymedon, Plato in his will, along with six other people, including Speusippos named as executor, was probably a descendant - probably a grandson - from Plato's eponymous brother. He owned land in the demos Eiresidai, the belonging to a Plato plot, which ranged in the west to the river Kephisos, was adjacent.
