Euterpe luminosa is a native palm tree in South America.

Features

Euterpe luminosa is a multi -stemmed palm, usually it forms a developed strain with other sprouts at the base. The stem is erect, 5 to 11 m high with a diameter of 5 to 7 cm, and gray. The crown consists of 9 to 12 leaves. The leaf sheath is 48 to 65 cm long, green and has no ligule. It is apical scattered with woolly, reddish brown hair covered. The petiole is 20 to 35 cm long, green and densely covered with woolly, reddish brown hair. The rachis is 1.1 to 1.4 m long and densely covered with hair like the petiole. On each side are 48-69 leaflets that hang almost to form a kind of roof. You are bald, the midrib stands out clearly. The basal leaves is 20 to 25 cm long, the middle 35 to 41 cm and the terminal 14 to 15 cm.

The inflorescence is between the leaves and the flowering period is upright. The peduncle is 4-5 cm long, the cover sheet about 32 cm long, the bracts on the peduncle 32 cm long. The inflorescence axis is 13 to 16 cm long, their are 30 to 40 lateral branches that are up to 30 cm long. The flowers are in the lower range in triads, distal pairs or individually.

The male flowers are 6-7 mm long, some are short-stalked. The sepals are triangular, 2.5 mm long, fused at the bottom of short. The petals are triangular, 55 mm long, the stamens are at a short receptaculum. The stamens are 1.5 mm long, the anthers 3 mm. The stamp rudiment is 1 mm long. The female flowers are up to 2.5 mm long, the sepals and petals are broadly oval and 2 mm long. The six staminodes are very small.

The fruits are ellipsoidal, 2 cm long with a diameter of 1 cm. The scar remains are clear and are subapical, the perianth is enlarged and up to 7 mm long. The exocarp is black. The seeds are ellipsoid, the endosperm is homogeneous with a central air- filled region. The primary leaf is pinnate with a long rachis.

Dissemination and locations

Euterpe luminosa is known only from the type locality in the Peruvian province of Pasco. Your site should be generally very small. Here it grows in the humid cloud forest adjacent to a visit virgin vegetation, which is characterized by xeromorphe shrubs. It grows 2000-2500 m above sea level.
