The until recently operated as a subspecies of Eurasian Euxoa adumbrata Eversmann, 1842 is similar but Euxoa lidia is larger, darker, has narrower forewings and only outlined in white kidney blemish. After Warnecke, the former subspecies have been isolated during the last ice age in different regions, so that the location can be used as a criterion for distinction. Superficially resembles Euxoa lidia also some forms of Euxoa tritici - species complex and other Euxoa species, but how Euxoa nigricans or Euxoa vitta is, usually to the distinctive call waiting and in particular to the one half white and black, sharply divided ruff good indistinguishable. Based on the documented description of Kozhanchikov of the genitals can be a unique assignment.

Geographical distribution and habitat

The species occurs or occurred only in the coastal regions of Belgium (?), The Netherlands, northern Germany ( probably extinct) and Denmark. Former Northern and Eastern European evidence be attributed to the type Euxoa adumbrata ( Eversmann, 1842) today. Euxoa lidia prefers warm and dry places in the coastal areas, such as sandy heaths.

Way of life

Euxoa lidia is one generation per year. The nocturnal moths fly between July and August. They come to artificial light sources and visit the bait. The nocturnal caterpillars feed on various low plants and grasses, such as dandelion (Taraxacum ) or Vogelknöterichen ( Polygonum ). They overwinter and pupate in May of the following year in a cocoon in the soil.
