Eva Nowotny

Eva Nowotny ( born February 17, 1944 in Vienna) is an Austrian diplomat and was ambassador to France, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Life

Since 1973 she is at the service of the Foreign Ministry. After postings to Cairo and New York City, where she worked for the United Nations, she returned to Austria. From 1983 to 1992 Nowotny served as Foreign Policy Advisor to the Chancellor Fred Sinowatz and Vranitzky. She then worked as Austrian ambassador to France ( February 1992 - April 1997) and the United Kingdom ( 1997-1999). In 2000, she was - although SPÖ close - under ÖVP Chancellor Wolfgang bowl and Minister Benita Ferrero- Waldner section director of integration and economic policy at the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs ( for EU integration ). October 2003 to December 2008 she was in Washington, DC an ambassador in the United States. For the period 2009 to 2012 Eva Nowotny was appointed president of the Austrian Commission for UNESCO.

She also is a board member of the Austrian Society for Foreign Policy and the United Nations ( ÖGAVN ), the Bruno Kreisky Forum and CARE Austria. Since March 2013 she is Chairman of the University Council of the University of Vienna.

Personal

Eva Nowotny Thomas Nowotny, a retired diplomat, author and lecturer on International Relations, married. She has a daughter and two grandchildren.
