Evangeline Walton

Evangeline Walton ( born November 14, 1907 in Indianapolis, Indiana, † 11 March 1996 in Tucson, Arizona; actually Evangeline Walton Ensley ) was an American fantasy author.

Life

Evangeline Walton suffered as a child many diseases and could not participate in normal school life. But the intelligent child wrote six years old first stories. She received home schooling from her great aunt and read Lord Dunsany, L. Frank Baum, Henry Rider Haggard and James Stephens. Welsh legends she was particularly impressed, especially the Mabinogion. It was inspired by this wreath myths about her novel The Virgin and the Swine, which was published in 1936. He remained unnoticed until Lin Carter discovered him for the Adult Fantasy Series and under the new title The Iceland of the Mighty brought out again. When this opportunity came to light that there was another novel, which had found no publisher, followed in 1971 by The Children of Llyr. The author completed the cycle with The Song of Rhiannon (1972) and Prince of Anwnn (1974). Each book represents one of the so-called ' branches ' ​​of the Mabinogion.

Then Evangeline Walton wrote some fantasy books. She lived from 1940 in Tucson, Arizona. In 1989, she received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the World Fantasy Convention. Her estate is located in the library of the University of Arizona in Tucson. She died at the age of 88 years after surgery for lung cancer had had to undergo.
