Ève Francis

Eve Francis ( born August 24, 1886 in Saint- Josse- ten-Noode as Eva Louise François, † December 6, 1980 Neuilly -sur- Seine) was a French actress of Belgian origin. It is regarded as the star of the French impressionist film of the 1920s.

Life

Her first screen appearance celebrated theater actress Eve Francis 1914 blonde in Charles Maudrus La dame. In 1915 she married the film critic, writer and director Louis Delluc. He also wrote the screenplay for her 1920 released movie La Fête espagnole. By 1921, they turned together five more films among others Fièvre and Le chemin d' Ernoa. In Eldorado ( 1921), she worked for the first time together with Marcel L' Herbier and 1926 in Antoinette Sabrier with Germaine Dulac. In addition to her acting, she became increasingly interested in working behind the camera, showed enthusiasm for the processes, structures and building their films. After the death Delluc 1924 she appeared less and less before the camera and L' Herbier began to assist in his films. For Jacques Devals Club de femmes, she returned in 1936 to the canvas back. From 1940 she was a journalist and author ( Temps héroïques, 1949; Un autre Claudel, 1973) and has written acclaimed movie reviews. In addition, she acted as an actress and director at the Théâtre des Mathurin. After the war she worked as a drama teacher for the Cinémathèque française and was only twice (1974/1975) on display in the cinema. She was appointed a member of the Legion of Honour.
