Saint- Josse- ten-Noode (French ) or Sint- Joost - ten-Node (Dutch ) has 27 134 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2012) at only 1.14 square kilometers, making it the smallest of the 19 municipalities in the region Brussels - capital and the most densely populated municipality of Belgium with about 24,000 inhabitants per square kilometer.

Although Saint-Josse-Ten-Noode/Sint-Joost-ten-Node is legally a separate municipality, it is located in the center of Brussels, between the actual city in the south of Brussels and Schaerbeek / Schaerbeek in the north. Immediately beyond the ring road, which forms the southern boundary of the municipality, is the Rue Neuve / Nieuwstraat, the pedestrian zone of Brussels.

History
